Meta Ads Benchmarks: Average CPM in Facebook and Instagram in the United States for 1Q 2026

At the start of 2026, CPM trends and average levels were shaped by both foundational factors, including normal intra-year seasonality and inventory demand, and newer external influences. These included the deeper rollout of the Andromeda algorithm and advertisers’ response to how that algorithm operates. Many advertisers began reworking campaign structure, targeting, and messaging in an effort to align with the new realities of the auction.

Average Meta Ads CPM Benchmarks by Campaign Objective in 1Q 2026

Objective Reach & Impressions Traffic & Engagements Lead Generation (Websites) Sales
Min $4–7     $5–10
Average Min $7–9 $8–10 $22–26 $10–14
Average $9–14 $10–15 $26–40 $14–25
Average Max $14–20 $15–25 $40–55 $25–38
Max $20+   $55+ $38+

Methodology note: We compile these benchmarks using data from our own client accounts and internal projects, while also incorporating external benchmark data available from other agencies and market sources. Our internal data carries 90% of the weight in determining average values, while the remaining 10% is used for calibration against external observations. Extreme values are determined with a 70% weight assigned to internal data and 30% to external data. These benchmarks are most relevant for United States campaigns operating at a large regional or national scale. For city-level targeting or DMA-specific campaigns, actual CPMs may differ substantially.

CPM Benchmarks for Reach and Impressions Campaigns in 1Q 2026

If your ultimate goal is to reach the largest possible audience with a frequency level high enough to support brand recall, it is important to understand the expected cost of impression delivery, since impressions themselves are, to a large extent, the end result of this type of campaign. When optimizing for Reach or Impressions with frequency controls in place, you can typically achieve relatively low impression costs. Below are average and extreme CPM ranges based on the performance of more than 500 creatives across 10+ business categories:

  • Extreme Min: $4–7
  • Average Min: $7–9
  • Average: $9–14
  • Average Max: $14–20
  • Extreme Max: $20+

What Determines the Average CPM for Reach and Impressions

Several core factors can influence average CPM in Reach campaigns:

  • Your delivery ambition and target share of audience coverage. The larger the share of the audience you aim to buy, the greater the volume premium you may face. Part of this effect can be softened by extending the buying period.
  • Audience capacity. The narrower or more specific the audience you are trying to reach, the higher your CPM will usually be.
  • Placement settings. When using Advantage+ Placements, you can often absorb part of the premium associated with audience specificity.
  • Frequency goals or per-user impression limits. This is often the most important factor because it directly affects both price and the ultimate effectiveness of the campaign, including the conversion of impressions into Ad Recall and Ad Awareness.

CPM Benchmarks for Traffic and Engagement Campaigns in 1Q 2026

This objective is being used less often today and is more common in situations where the media goal is not just exposure, but a longer interaction with either the ad itself or the landing page. It is not designed to solve lead generation or sales outcomes directly. At the same time, the optimization logic already takes into account the predicted likelihood of an action, such as a click or an engagement. In most accounts, you will likely see some increase in CPM versus Awareness campaigns. However, because this objective includes action prediction, the bigger driver here is often the quality of the creative, the message, and how that message is packaged in the ad.

Below are our average CPM ranges for Traffic and Engagement campaigns:

  • Average Min: $8–10
  • Average: $10–15
  • Average Max: $15–25

What Determines the Average CPM for Traffic and Engagement

As with other campaign types, your chosen audience and placements will have a significant effect on CPM. Campaigns that rely on Advantage targeting and audience expansion will usually have a pricing advantage, both on CPM and often on CPC as well.

That said, the creative itself plays a much larger role here. Strong packaging, clear messaging, and the ability to earn attention are often more important than minor setup changes.

CPM for Lead Generation Campaigns in 1Q 2026

Lead Generation campaigns based on website conversion events typically show higher average CPMs than campaigns built around more media-oriented objectives, and they are influenced by a broader set of variables.

As with other campaign types, we are seeing a decline in average CPM for this objective group, driven by both seasonality and the way advertisers are adjusting to Meta’s newer algorithmic environment. At the same time, average maximums may remain flat or even increase if creatives continue to follow older optimization logic without adapting to how Andromeda now evaluates and retrieves ads.

  • Average Min: $22–26
  • Average: $26–40
  • Average Max: $40–55
  • Extreme Max: $55+

What Determines the Average CPM for Lead Generation

It may sound repetitive, but the key pricing factor is still how successfully you adapt your creative strategy. Creative uniqueness is starting to matter more than simply producing a larger number of minor variations. It is no longer enough to change only small details, such as a banner background. Advertisers need to develop a wider range of bigger creative hypotheses, including more meaningful variation in message, angle, visual treatment, and offer framing.
